WATCHING Luke Norris find the net with prolific regularity is still a relative novelty for Colchester United supporters, albeit a very enjoyable one.

The 25-year-old has bagged seven goals and earned a League Two Player of the Month nomination for September, after making a great start to life at the U’s.

But while Colchester’s leading goalscorer’s recent exploits in front of goal are still fairly unique for some, they are certainly of little surprise to his team-mate Courtney Senior.

Senior previously played alongside Norris at Brentford, prior to the striker’s arrival from Swindon Town this summer – and knew what he is capable of in front of goal.

“I’ve known Luke for a while and I’m not surprised he’s scoring goals because he’s been a goalscorer from a while ago,” said Senior.

“If I can I give him the ball, because I know that if he shoots he’ll definitely hit the target.”

Senior himself is back in Colchester’s line-up, having started their last two games following a three-match absence from the side in the league.

The 21-year-old played his part in the U’s 3-1 win over Yeovil Town in midweek and is hoping to retain his spot for their trip to play Stevenage, this weekend.

Senior said: “I’m very glad to be back in the team.

“Over the last few weeks, I hadn’t been in the side and the team have been doing well.

“But I try to think positive and even if I’m not starting, I still want to affect the game if I come on.

“I’ve trained hard as I do all the time to get back into the side and the gaffer put me in.

“He knows best and when I came on, I had to affect the game and I did when I scored against Cambridge.”

Senior has been seen in a more central position during the last two games and the attacker says that is something head coach John McGreal wants to see more of.

“The gaffer wants me to mix up my game and not always stand on the touchline and get ball to feet,” said Senior, who has two goals to his name so far, this season.

“When I come inside, it’s hard for the defender to either come with me or stay so it’s been causing defenders problems.

“I know that I won’t always beat my man but if I’m having a bad game or my touch isn’t right, I try to keep it simple and just go again.

“We have some experienced players and they give me confidence because they know what they’re talking about and if they give me tips, I’ll try to take them on board.”

Colchester will be looking to consolidate fourth place with victory at Stevenage, who lie just a point below them in the table.

Senior added: “We try to be hard to beat both home and away.

“It’s very tight and there are only a few points in it.

“Every game we go into is a big one and we want to win every game.”
