BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent have teed up a mouthwatering FA Cup tie against former Football League side Torquay United.
The R's defeated Egham Town 2-1 in tonight's second qualifying round replay and now host the Gulls, of National League South, at the Taydal Stadium on Saturday week (October 6).
It promises to be an eagerly-anticipated contest against a Gulls side managed by vastly-experienced former Peterborough United, Yeovil Town and Cheltenham Town boss Gary Johnson.
Tonight's replay was needed after Brightlingsea and Egham drew 3-3 on Saturday.
The R's led 2-0 and 3-1 but were pegged back and conceded an equaliser in the 90th minute.
With the draw for the next round taking place on Monday lunchtime, there was plenty at stake heading into tonight's encounter and Regent took the lead just before half-time thanks to a brilliant, powerful effort from the left by Billy Hunt.
The striker had earlier seen an effort cleared off the line.
Sean McCormack equalised with a well-worked goal on the hour-mark but Tom Rothery's Brightlingsea regained their advantage eight minutes later through midfielder Jake Turner.
The midfielder curled home a peach of a free-kick from 25 yards to spark scenes of celebration around the Taydal.
