COLCHESTER'S Tom Oliver pulled off another double top-ten finish in the tenth round of the Dickies British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park.

After running off the track and across wet grass at high speed, the SGR Racing driver recovered to work his way through the field and claim tenth place.

Oliver said: “Well that was a weekend to remember. I’m glad I did some motocross during the off-season as it stood me in good stead!

"Across wet grass at 100mph is not an easy feat. I was really lucky to stay on my SGR Racing Yamaha.

"The next round is Assen - I’ve never been there but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Changeable weather conditions, it made for a challenging weekend at the undulating Cheshire circuit.

Qualifying started off as a dry session but unfortunately turned wet leaving Oliver is 12th place.

The sprint race got underway in dry conditions and was a frantic affair as usual.

Oliver battled back and fourth all race and finished in a determined tenth position.

His lap time set in the race propelled him into eighth for the main feature race.

Race day turned into a very wet event so SGR Racing used morning warm up to scrub in some wet tyres anticipating a wet race ahead.

Their gamble was correct and the race was declared wet.

Oliver immediately became embroiled in a battle for seventh position but on lap four the safety car came out meaning no-one could change position until it returned to the pit lane.

As the safety car came in the race was back on and unfortunately Oliver got caught out through Cascades.

He ran off the track and across the wet grass and high speed and was very lucky to stay on the bike.

But Oliver re-joined the field at the very back and despite having his work cut out for him to get into a point-scoring position, he claimed a top-ten finish.

SGR Racing team owner Stephen Kinghorn said: “I have to say my heart was in my mouth when I saw Tom take off across the grass!

"Thankfully he kept it upright and was able to re-join. He rode so well, it would have been easy to just throw it away after that move but he didn’t.

"He got his head down and worked hard for a good result. I’m really proud of him. Assen will be a challenge as we haven’t been there before but we are all ready for it as a team.”

The 11th round of the Dickies National Supersport Championship takes place at Assen this weekend.
