JAKE Pitty says there is ‘a different feeling’ in the Canvey Island camp this season.

The Gulls are currently fifth in the Isthmian North standings having won three and lost just one of their opening five league matches.

Canvey’s next four matches are at home - with Brentwood Town, Great Wakering Rovers and Tilbury visitors in the league before an FA Trophy tie against Cray Wanderers.

And Pitty says Canvey need to maintain their upward trend at the Frost Hire Stadium.

“We have hit a bit of form and that was our problem last year, the consistency,” said the right back. “Getting a run together is key and it feels a bit different this time.

“We have a good little run of games coming up now but these are the games are the ones we struggled in last season.

“But we know a few wins can help us a lot. We are normally really good at home so we need to stay focused and see where it takes us.

“We have a really strong squad so we all believe we can win promotion. There are experienced bodies from a higher level and we have made some good signings as well.”

Canvey ran out 2-1 winners at likely play-off contenders Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday with Josh Hutchinson netting the winner in the final five minutes.

And Pitty added the manner of that victory boded well for the remainder of the season.

“We outplayed Maldon in the first half but at 1-1 we had had to grind it out. That might not have been a game we would have won last season so the confidence is high.”
