CLACTON Golf Club staged their popular Corsa Classic - an annual event that raises funds for the British Heart Foundation.

Members Dan Clark and Bob Davidson are the driving force behind the competition and spend the whole year in advance seeking sponsors and getting commitments for the day.

Every year the competition is oversubscribed and a waiting list has to be drawn up.

This year was no different.

The support from members and guests is unparalleled to any other event the club hosts and this year the total raised was a fantastic £3,051.

The men’s winner was Dave Caley and the ladies' winner Gilly Cullen.

Elsewhere, the final of the Essex County Munro Foursomes was played at Bentley Golf Club.

Defending champions Faye Trigg and Charley Hatley were up against two young ladies from Thorndon Park.

It took place on a lovely autumnal day - not too hot, with a gentle breeze to start.

All the ladies are very strong golfers and Clacton fought hard, but were three-down after 18 holes.

They eventually lost three and two but the match was played in very good spirits.

The club would like to congratulate Trigg, Hatley and Katy Yates.

They played six rounds to get their club into the final for a second year - a fantastic achievement.

Clacton's ladies held their Autumn Meeting.

Kath Sinnott and Tricia Galleway won with 48 points.

In second place were Charley Hatley and Janine Wyman (45 points) and in third place were Angela Barratt and Jackie Bright (44).

The best front nine was won by Gill Wilson and Ann Wright (25 points).

The best back nine winners were Hoon Locke and Linda Wiggins (21 points), on countback.

Nearest the pin went to Judy Speck and nearest the pin in two went to Di Kedge.

The Clacton Scramble winners were Hoon Locke, Linda Wiggins, Charley Hatley and Janine Wyman, with 25.8.

In second place were Pam Richmond, Sue Carter, Kath Sinnott and Tricia Galleway, with 30.0.

Clacton's juniors played for the Hedley Shield.

Once again, a strong field saw some superb results by many of the juniors.

Harvet Bell won the Shield with 43 points.

Second place, on countback, went to James Wright, ahead of third-placed Katy Yates.
