Joe Dunne says he still has a 'strong affinity' with Colchester United - but insists he has set his sights on a win against his former club tomorrow.

The Cambridge United boss returns to the JobServe Community Stadium this weekend for the first time as a manager when they take on John McGreal's U's side, in League Two.

Dunne is still a popular figure at Colchester, having played nearly 200 league and cup games for them in two separate spells before coaching and managing at the club.

The 45-year-old says he has a big connection with the club he left in 2014 after two years in the managerial hot seat - but is adamant that he still wants to lead his Cambridge side to victory tomorrow.

Dunne said: "It's my first trip back there as a manager, it's a club I obviously have a strong affinity with.

"But don't think for a second that I don't want to win because I love my players.

"I see us as two very similar clubs. We are both clubs that rely strongly on our communities.

"I loved my time there and I've been here nearly four years now and have that same feeling about my time here.

"Colchester is a tough place to go - they have recruited well and John McGreal has done well.

"But we go with the full intention of trying to win the game.

"We go full of confidence looking forward to a tough test.

"It's a passionate Essex crowd but we'll take plenty of fans too and we'll need that emotion behind us."
