LAWFORD Lads are going strong at the top of the Essex and Suffolk Border League.

The side, promoted from division one last season, added to their points haul with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Alresford Colne Rangers on Saturday.

It came hot on the heels of another away success – 4-1 at bottom club Brantham Athletic Reserves last Tuesday.

Ollie Mann (two) and Jack Wood scored their goals as they stormed back from two-down at half-time following Reife Marangou’s double for Alresford.

Gas Recreation are hot on their heels after a 4-2 success at Little Oakley Reserves.

Connor Jones, Luke Taylor, Harry Willoughby and substitute Ben Lawton scored the goals, with Robert Pratt and Cameron Wallace responding for the Acorns.

Hatfield Peverel, in third, were another high-flying side to enjoy success on the road as they prevailed 3-2 at Dedham Old Boys.

Max Mayo, Luke Turner and Lawrence Hale were their marksmen, with Tristan Moseley and James Parker finding the back of the net for Dedham.

West Bergholt were the day’s big scorers, plundering eight on their travels at Barnston.

David Weir helped himself to a hat-trick and there were braces apiece for Lee Townrow and Jake Bethell.

Substitute Darren Bethell was also among the goals.

Peter Brough and Joe Hurd were the Great Bentley heroes as the Greensiders won 2-1 at Earls Colne while Tiptree Heath had the edge on Kelvedon Social, winning 2-0.

In the other game in the premier division, Luke Whybrow scored twice as Wormingford Wanderers won 3-1 at home to Hedinghams United.

Liam Close was also on target.

Alresford’s reserves are leading the way in division one and they flexed their muscles with a 6-1 victory at Cressing United.

Josh Hodgson hit four and there were also goals for Russell McLean and Roger Smith.

Fellow high-fliers Tiptree Engaine slipped up 2-0 at home to Flitch United, Bures United did not have a fixture and Tiptree Jobserve shared the spoils from a 3-3 thriller against Gas Recreation Reserves.
