Ryan Jackson has been praised by Colchester United head coach John McGreal following his nomination for the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award.

The U's right-back has been in impressive form in the opening weeks of the League Two season, scoring two goals and setting a further two for his side last month.

Jackson, who signed a new two-year deal with Colchester earlier this summer, has also contributed to Colchester's excellent defensive record which has seen them concede only four goals in six league games so far, earning praise from boss McGreal.

McGreal said: “Jacko’s been absolutely terrific.

“He’s scored a couple of goals from the full-back position and got a couple of assists as well – he’s shown dependability and assurance and I think he’s been fantastic for us in the first few weeks of the season and long may that continue.

“He signed his contract within a week of it being offered and it just shows you what kind of professional he is.

“He wanted to get it sorted out nice and early so that he could enjoy his break but do a bit of work in the off season too and he’s getting his rewards for that."

The award, in conjunction with Bristol Street Motors, sees Jackson shortlisted with five other League Two players - Michael Bostwick (Lincoln City), Michael Doughty (Swindon Town), Otis Khan (Mansfield Town), James Norwood (Tranmere Rovers) and Ollie Palmer (Crawley Town).

Voting for the award runs until 8am tomorrow morning.
