Colchester United midfielder Brandon Comley has been called up to the Montserrat squad for their CONCACAF Nations League qualifier against El Salvador.

The 22-year-old will fly out to link up with the squad on Monday and as a result, will miss the U’s League Two clash with Tranmere Rovers next weekend, along with the Checkatrade Trophy group match with Southampton under-21s next Tuesday night.

It is not the first time that Comley has been called up for the Montserrat squad.

He was also selected to represent them in two World Cup qualifying fixtures against Curaçao in March 2015 but did not make an appearance in either fixture.

However, Comley’s older brother James, who plays for Maidenhead United, has twice represented Montserrat and is also listed in the squad.

U’s head coach John McGreal said: “Brandon’s got a game against El Salvador and it’s brilliant.

“I wouldn’t stand in anyone’s way if they want to make international appearances, so it’s brilliant for him.

“It gets him a bit of spotlight and it’s also a different game of football, in a prestigious competition CONCAF.

“Fair play to him, so we wish him all the best.”
