Very few tend to agree with the names chosen for national sides.
Either somone has been omitted who deserves a place, or a player has been selected who is barely worthy of a place in his club side through the eyes of fans and pundits.
The name at Ipswich Town which brings not debate, but confusion regarding his international status is Owen Garvan.
It has been a surprise to many that 19-year-old Garvan is yet to receive an international call-up for the Republic of Ireland.
He told the Gazette: "As a young kid all I wanted to do was play for my country.
"However, it is not up to me if I do play or not - it's up to other people.
"I can't do anything about it and I'll have to wait and see if the chance comes.
"It's down to the manager so I'll have to keep playing well for Ipswich and improve my performances. I massively want to play for Ireland."
Town face Crystal Palace at Portman Road on Sunday (kick-off 1.15pm).
