COLCHESTER Harriers' Allen Smalls clinched an impressive runners-up spot at the Hatfield Forest half marathon.

He was also first veteran over-50 runner, handing him a boost as he prepares for the 50-mile Dolgellau ultra event later this month.

David Wright at last put his injuries behind him to finish as first over-60 runner, in 32nd place.

Fay Smalls also ran well in the severe conditions.

Ed Mitchell led the Harriers contingent at the Ipswich Twilight ten kilometre event, clocking 34 minutes 05 seconds.

Chris Manby ran well in 39m 53s as did Keith Marley (39m 36s), ahead of Craig Mitchell (40m 50s), Rebecca Cooke and Megan Yallop (54m 57s).

Angus Holford ran a superb 3,000m steeplechase race in a British League meeting, coming home in 10m 01s.

Debbie Cattermole won the South Woodham Ferrers park run with Richard Flutter also first, in the men's race.

Harriers runners ran from the rear of the field at the Colchester Castle park run.

Ramadam Osman passed all 326 runners to win in 16m 28s, with Jason Gunn runner-up in 17m 27s.
