FRINTON Cricket Club committee member Chris Armstrong has admitted being bitterly disappointed that West Indian legend Collis King is no longer able to grace next week's festival week at Ashlyns Road.

The 67-year-old had been due to make a special appearance for a Caribbean XI, as part of a match against the hosts on Thursday.

However, King has now been found himself embroiled in an immigration fight, after it emerged he has been forced to return to Barbados while applying for a visa to live in the UK alongside his British wife.

King, who starred in the West Indies' 1979 World Cup final victory, has spent more than 40 years living and working in the UK, alongside his native Barbados.

Now, however, he has been left in limbo after being told he could not submit an application for a spousal visa while still in the country.

"It's disgusting the way Collis is being treated," said Armstrong, who knows the West Indian legend and will be spending time with him early in 2019.

"We're bitterly disappointed he won't be able to feature in our cricket week because we'd been very much looking forward to welcoming him to Ashlyns Road.

"However, we won't allow it to take the edge off our week and we're still very much looking forward to hosting the Caribbean XI - a side put together by our very own Merv Westfield.

"It's always a very popular, colourful and atmospheric afternoon and evening and I'm sure this year's match will be no exception."
