Halstead Town bowed out of the FA Cup in an extra preliminary round replay at Wellingborough Town.

The Ridgeons League division one side were beaten 2-0 by their high-flying United Counties League opponents.

After going close through Warren, Halstead fell behind seven minutes into the second half when Ward headed in, after Wooding's long-range effort had crashed back off the crossbar.

Halstead pushed forward in desperate search of an equaliser and conceded a second late on when Taylor netted in injury-time.

Tiptree United have progressed to the next round, winning 4-2 at Sawbridgeworth Town after extra-time.

Tom Poole scored a hat-trick and Gary Hill netted the other.

FC Clacton are through to the preliminary round after winning last night's replay at Desborough Town 3-2.

The Seasiders fought back from behind thanks to goals from Matt Preston, Michael Lyness and Matt Waters. Desborough had led at the interval and then, after losing their grip in the second period, pulled one back in the closing seconds.

But Clacton held firm and now visit Leighton Town in the next round on September 1.

Last night's game had to be held up for 20 minutes because the referee insisted the lines had to be repainted.
