BARRY and Lesley Hitchcock were victorious as Stoke by Nayland Golf Club held their England Golf Team competition qualifiers.

In very hot conditions on the Gainsborough course, they triumphed with 44 points to finish ahead of Gary Borthwick and Barbara Rowe, on countback.

The two pairs will now represent Stoke by Nayland GC in next year's regional round after their performance in the dedicated club qualifier, played to decide the team to play in the club team competition the following year.

The event at Stoke by Nayland GC has been named the President’s Prize and is a four ball better ball competition, with the top two pairs qualifying.

Stoke by Nayland GC’s 2017 entry, Ian Thompson, Bev Thompson, Del Prichard and Jo Little, finished in the top three of the regional round last month and have qualified to play at Frilford Heath, hosts of England Golf week.

The Hitchcocks were presented with champagne and champagne flutes by club president, Lesley Garnett.

Results: 1st Barry and Lesley Hitchcock 44 points ocb; 2nd Gary Borthwick and Barbara Rowe 44 points; 3rd Nigel and Mandy Byham 42 points.

Best Front/Back Nine: John Sandford and Diana Harris; David and Teresa Close.

Hilary Cairns was triumphant as Stoke by Nayland GC Ladies played their 18-hole stableford, on the Constable Course.

She won with 38 points, finishing three ahead of runner-up Mandy Byham.

Ann Thomas was third on countback ahead of Sue Lathem, after both players finished with 32 points.

The Stoke by Nayland GC Weekend ladies played the fourth round of the Lilian Osborne Trophy, on a perfect playing day on the Gainsborough course.

Jackie Frost won with 38 points ahead of runner-up Mandy Byham (34 points).

Lesley Hitchcock was third, with 33 points.
