THE newly-formed Wivenhoe Tennis Club Ladies B team have experienced a good start to their first Stringers’ Colchester and District Tennis League season.

Despite suffering a series of narrow early defeats, two important wins against Kirby B have boosted their position.

Captain Rosie Pedlow is keen to provide ladies new or returning to tennis the opportunity to compete in a league whilst also have fun.

She said: "We encourage and welcome ladies who want to give team tennis a go but who, for different reasons, may be nervous about making that first step."

Wivenhoe TC coach Jamie Champion is pleased some of the ladies were either new to tennis or 'returners' to the sport.

With a little coaching and play at the club, they have progressed greatly.

Wivenhoe TC Men's A team have enjoyed a great start to the division one season.

They have won their first two matches against Lexden Hill and Kirby, triumphing 7-2 in each match.

Champion is partnered by Dan Nowell and the pair are yet to drop a set in either match.

Champion is pleased to point out that one of his juniors, Jasper van der Wolf-Ong, has played and won two of his three rubbers.

He said: "This is the very type of progression from youngsters that provides me with increased enthusiasm to give juniors the chance to play at higher levels."
