RECORD appearance-maker Jake Gould and midfield dynamo Jake Turner have penned new contracts at Brightlingsea Regent.

Both have committed to another season with the Bostik League club.

Gould has made over 350 appearances for the club and had a superb campaign, winning the manager’s player-of-the-year award from impressed boss Tom Rothery.

“It’s vital we keep the core of the team and these two players are certainly part of that,” said the Regent manager.

“Since I returned to the club, Jake has been exceptional and so consistent.

“He’s a great story, alongside the Brightlingsea story, having started playing for the A team here before working his way up to the first team and now he’s the record appearance-maker (with 357 appearances).

“At 26, there’s still so much football in him and he’s a player who I feel has always made the step up in levels with the team when they’ve been promoted, due to his willingness to learn and work hard.”

Turner, meanwhile, has now made over 200 appearances, reaching that milestone after rejoining the club in October.

“JT (as Turner is known) was my first signing when returning and, like Jake Gould, I know what I get with him,” added Rothery.

“He’s technically excellent and scored some unbelievable goals for the team last season.

“I still feel there’s more to come from him and I’d like to see him stamp his personality on games and really demonstrate how good he is.

“Sometimes I don’t feel he really appreciates how talented a player he is.

“It’s great to secure both these stalwarts and the experience they gained last season can only be a good thing as we move into our second season at step three.”
