Colchester United promotion winner Wayne Brown has been named as Maldon and Tiptree's new manager.

Brown has made the switch from his role as U's under-23s coach to take charge of the Bostik League division north outfit, at Park Drive.

He has taken over at the Jammers from Kevin Horlock, who it is understood will now succeed Brown as the U's under-23 coach.

Horlock had been working alongside Brown as his assistant, with the under-23s.

Brown, who played more than 350 times during his professional career, will be tasked with the objective of securing promotion to the Bostik Premier.

It will be the former Hull City and Leicester City defender's first such role as a non-league manager.

Maldon & Tiptree chairman Ed Garty told the club's website: "Wayne has got the motivation and the determination to drive us forward in the non-league game and we are very pleased to have him at Maldon & Tiptree next season.

"We are striving to get promoted from this level and Wayne has a genuine winning mentality which he will bring to this football club.

"Here at the club, we are keen to develop players alongside the goal of getting promoted and his coaching ability will give us a very good chance of achieving both aims.

"We are confident that Wayne's experience on and off the pitch will give us a real opportunity of getting promoted next season."

Meanwhile, Barking manager Justin Gardner has been given a player recruitment role at Colchester.

The experienced coach will be tasked with bringing players aged between 17 and 23 years old into the U's academy but will continue his current role at Bostik North Barking FC.

He tweeted: Excited to announce that i will be joining @ColU_Official as player recruitment for age groups 17-23 this is a great opportunity to work & develop players who want to progress into full time football at a professional club. Whose going to be next of the conveyor belt.
