ERMEAS Afewerki smashed a Colchester Harriers record at their Southern Athletic League meeting, at Norwich.

The under-17 athlete ran a fantastic 1,500m on his league debut for the Green Vests, clocking 4:08.2.

He stayed with the fast pace and produced a scorching finish to finish third, behind older athletes.

Afewerki smashed his previous best by 5.5 seconds and beat the previous club record by 7.5 seconds.

It was a hard-fought battle throughout the day for second place position, with Windsor, Slough and Eton just getting there by nine points.

Harriers finished third with 186.5 points, with City of Norwich claiming victory (247.5).

There were plenty of personal bests (PBs) and a magnificent club record on the day.

Rebecca continued her fine start to the season by dominating the women's 100m and 200m, winning both in 12.0s and 24.6s.

Maya ran a great 200m finishing strongly in a new best of 26.9s.

Lucy Mapp continued her rich vein of form with a PB in the 5,000m in 19:27.9.

She also gained a PB in the 1,500m steeplechase in 5:55.7 and threw another best in the discus (17.9m).

Mapp also won the B string pole vault in 2.15m and was third in the B string 400m hurdles.

Nicola Hilson also ran a PB in the B string 5,000m in 21:50.0.

Aliyah Soames threw the shot out to a new PB of 7.22m to gain a valuable second place in the A string.

She also gained second in the A javelin and third in the B hammer.

In the men's 100m, Daniel Jones ran yet another PB to clock 11.3s and also finished third in the A string and ran 23.1s for third in the B string 200m.

Jake Young won the men's 400m in 50.8s before running a fine PB to finish third in the 200m (22.7s).

Nate Filer was third in the 3,000m in a PB time of 9:39.4 and also stepped in the 1,500m at the last minute and claimed another PB of 4:35.4.

Joe Wilkin made good progress in the high jump after jumping a new PB of 1.68m.

Joseph Clarke showed fantastic form in the triple jump, smashing his previous best with a leap of 10.83m.

Paul Cooper threw a new PB in the hammer, taking third spot with a throw of 25.75m.

Jade Morgan won the long jump in 4.96m and also finished second in both the triple jump (10.89m) and 100m hurdles.

Harriers' Matt Rose was third in the pole vault, triple jump and discus and was second in both the 110m hurdles (16.5s) and 400m hurdles (61.5).

Stacy Eyers was third in the 400m, second in the 800m and the 1500m and also ran a leg in the 4x400m.

Helen Bloomfield ran the 400m hurdles, third in the 1,500m steeplechase and 1500m and second in the 4x400m relay leg.
