PAUL Addison returned to competition golf with a bang after winning the Playgolf Colchester Pro-Am qualifier.

Addison (8) triumphed on countback from in-form Ivan Southernwood (16) at the event, which saw a good-sized field with good course conditions and superb weather.

Addison’s fine gross 75 (nett 67) saw him win with a consistent 11 pars and boosted with a podium-winning birdie two on the par-three 14th hole. Southernwood carded nine pars, which included a late charge but with holes drying up, he narrowly missed out.

Sam Durrant (16) carded nine pars and without two triple-bogies on the par five holes, the competition could have seen a different name at the top. However, he had to take solace in doing enough for third place on countback with his nett 68, pushing Elias Fantousi (14) out of the podium places, with card highlights of nine pars.

Jerry Dalton (14) hit form to lift the Playgolf Senior May Day Trophy with the lowest gross score of 82 (nett 68).

Vice-captain Stephen Peeling (15) came second with nett 69 with Robert Few (25) in third on nett 70.

Colin Green and Bruce Poole both won a sleeve of balls for par three birdies.

The very consistent Steve Turner (14) won the final of the Seniors’ Winter Singles Knockout, beating Michael Johnson (23) three and two.

Turner edged ahead and maintained his advantage, making few mistakes throughout.

Playgolf Senior Captain Steve Dale captained a Playgolf team in the John Day Trophy, an event for players with an 18-plus handicap, between various teams from the region.

Playgolf were given a first-round home tie against Wanstead, winning 6½-2½.

Playgolf Ladies took to the course for the May Stableford competition.

Jeanette Shea won division one with 31 points ahead of Sally Pettit on 28 points, with Ann Longman a further point adrift in third.

Pauline Jordan carded 26 points to take top spot in division two, with Shirley Birkin a point behind.

Emma Rowe carded 24 points to finish third on countback from Linda Dundon and Liz Schultz.
