TENDRING Volleyball Club’s Jack Bruce and Sonny Chaney are celebrating after helping England secure a silver medal at the Novotel Cup.

Both play for Frinton-based Tendring Heatec in the Essex League and are part of the volleyball programme at Essex University.

They played their part in helping England’s senior team finish as runners-up at the event in Luxembourg, over Christmas.

They started with a dramatic 3-2 victory against Germany before notching a 3-1 success against hosts Luxembourg.

Sandwiched in between there were defeats against both countries but it was still enough to ensure they finished second in the group.

Germany were the winners and Luxembourg third.

The tournament took Chaney’s caps into double figures but represented Bruce’s England debut.

Both previously played for Tendring’s National League team.

Bruce now plays for London Lynx while Chaney plays Team Essex in the Super 8s.

Domestic volleyball continues next weekend, with Tendring’s women’s team back in Super 8s action at Pulsepoint London Orcas on January 13.

Tendring’s title-chasing men have a National League division two south encounter at rivals Team Essex Estonians on January 14.
