TOM Lapslie insists that Colchester United will go toe-to-toe all-comers at their Weston Homes Community Stadium "fortress".

The play-off chasing U's have a formidable record in front of their own fans this season and that was highlighted by an impressive 4-0 demolition of Stevenage last weekend, but they face possibly their greatest challenge tomorrow.

Leaders Doncaster Rovers, who are already assured of their place in League One next year, will be making a Good Friday visit and arrive on the back of a run of having just one defeat in their last ten games on the road.

However, Colchester have seen off some high-flying names already this year at home and Lapslie is feeling confident that they can take another scalp.

The 21-year-old midfielder said: “We’ve beaten the likes of Carlisle, Luton and Stevenage at home and it doesn’t matter who comes, the confidence is high and we feel that we can beat anyone on our day at home.

“We’ve picked up a lot of our points proportionally at home rather than away from home.

“I can’t really tell you why that happens but I’m glad that home has become a bit of a fortress now.

“It’s nice to be winning games at home and feeling confident and giving the crowd something to cheer about.

“Bar Doncaster, we have the best home record in the league.

“Teams will know that when they come here, we’re on a level par with Doncaster and they’ve run away with the league really.

“Teams will come to us knowing that they will probably have to be at their best to have any chance against us.

“We’re confident and we press, get the crowd behind us and score some goals."

Colchester know a strong finish to the campaign could see them finish in the play-off places and Lapslie, who has made 36 appearance for the U's this season, said it is a refreshing feeling to be battling to go up at this stage rather than fighting to stay up as they have in the last few years.

He added: “Over the last few years, there’s been so much pressure on us to just get some points together and get out of a relegation fight.

“It’s a different pressure now but it’s a nice pressure, because it’s something positive to play for.

“We can give it our all and try our best and hopefully, it’ll get us there.

“If it doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world if you like.

“We’ve had a successful season up to now but we want to get as many points as we can and hopefully win the play-offs.

“Anything can happen in this league and hopefully, the teams around us will drop points and we’ll be in it."
