KEM Izzet has admitted he is unsure whether he will sign an extension to his contract with Colchester United.
The U's, who have already seen Chris Iwelumo move to Charlton Athletic on a free this summer and Jamie Cureton request a transfer, are keen to tie their existing players down on longer-term deals over the coming weeks.
However Izzet, who played all but one of Colchester's Coca-Cola Championship fixtures last season, is now waiting for an improved contract offer from the club.
And he has admitted that his own valuation of what he is worth differs from what he has so far been offered.
Izzet told the Gazette: "It's in their hands.
"I have held talks with the club but nothing has been agreed.
"As long as the offer is what I'm looking for I will sign - but we're pretty far apart at the moment."
Izzet feels he and his team-mates' Championship status should be honoured in the form of their new contracts.
"I'm happy to stay at Colchester United," said Izzet, who joined the U's in April, 2001.
"But I'm a Championship player and I feel that I should be paid Championship wages."
