COLCHESTER United are set to miss out on the signing of Chris Barker.
The reliable defender made a big impression for the U's last season, on loan from Cardiff City.
The 26-year-old announced last week that he was keeping his options open and was considering his next move, following the Bluebirds' decision to place him on the transfer list.
However, the Gazette can reveal that Barker is set to sign for one of Colchester's Coca-Cola Championship rivals in the next 48 hours.
He is due to have a medical at his new club today.
The news will no doubt come as a bitter blow to U's boss Geraint Williams, who was keen to sign the left-back on a permanent basis, following his successful loan spell.
