Colchester lost out to high-flying Tonbridge Juddian at Mill Road.
The home side fell to a 25-7 defeat in their National League division three London and South East encounter.
Tonbridge took the lead in the first minute with a converted try.
The visitors extended their lead to 12-0 with a breakaway try.
Tonbridge kept the scoreboard ticking over with another try, this time under the posts, for an easy conversion and a 19-0 lead.
It got worse for Colchester as they were penalised for not releasing the ball and Tonbridge added the penalty kick to go 22-0 ahead.
After the break, Colchester came back into the game with a try through Jaid Wiltshire following a good run by Owen Herbert.
James Crozier added the conversion to make it 22-7.
But the visitors extended their lead with a penalty kick for 25-7.
Late in the second half Colchester were reduced to 14 men when Owen Herbert received a yellow card.
Colchester couldn’t find a way to breach the visitors’ defence again and the match ended 25-7.
