Drey Wright bagged a brace as Colchester United under-21s won at Bristol City.
The U’s youngsters followed up last week’s triumph over Birmingham City by winning 2-0 at the Robins’ Failand training ground.
The likes of Frankie Kent, Tom Lapslie and Jamie Harney all featured for Colchester.
Robins keeper JoJo Wollacott turned Wright’s shot onto a post early on and then palmed Lapslie’s long-range effort over the bar.
But Wright, who is still building up his match fitness following a serious knee injury last season, opened the scoring after nine minutes.
Louis Dunne did well out wide and delivered a low cross which Wright converted.
Burns should have at least hit the target for the hosts after being fed by Joe Morrell’s fine pass.
And the U’s capitalised on that miss when they went further ahead, five minutes before half-time.
After being fouled in the area by El-Abd, winger Wright scored from the penalty spot at the second attempt after keeper Wollacott had saved his initial effort.
