Colchester United slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, in the Coca-Cola Championship.
An error by Kevin McLeod allowed Frank Simek to nip in and score midway through the first half.
And Matthew Mills then headed into his own net from a corner to make it 2-0 to Wednesday soon after.
The U's, which featured three changes from the side that started against Coventry last weekend, were unable to recover from that blow.
