Chris Porter insists there is no danger of Colchester United being relegated this season – providing they maintain their improved form.
Porter has helped the U’s claim four points from a possible six in the two games he has played for them since arriving from Sheffield United, last month.
The 31-year-old marksman’s first goal for Colchester set them on their way to a 1-1 draw at promotion-chasing Bradford City, last weekend.
Tony Humes’ side now lie a point adrift of safety in League One, having lost only one of their last five league games.
And ahead of this weekend’s big basement battle with Crewe Alexandra, striker Porter is sure that the U’s can move away from the bottom four – as long as they keep picking up points.
He said: “We’ve got four points out of a possible six and if we carry on like this, there won’t be any danger of us going down, that’s for sure.
“With the players we’ve got, I can’t believe that we’re down there anyway.
“We’ll carry fighting and I’m sure we’ll get out of it.
“The confidence is high among the lads and we’re looking forward to a massive game against Crewe, this Saturday.”
