Colchester United have bolstered their defence with the signing of Latvian international defender Kaspars Gorkss.

The centre-back, 33, who was a free agent, has signed a short-term contract with the U's and went straight into their squad for their FA Cup second-round tie against Peterborough United.

Gorkss, who has played for the likes of QPR, Blackpool, Reading and Wolves during his career in England, flew to the UK earlier this week to sign his contract with Colchester.

He has made more than 450 league and cup appearances in England and has played 59 times for his country.
