Garry Richards came off the bench to score Colchester United's winner against Preston North End, in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Little more than four minutes after coming on as a second half substitute for the injured Matthew Mills, Richards rose high to head in Kevin Watson's corner and secure the U's first victory of 2007.
The win at Layer Road moves Colchester up to eighth in the table.
