Dominic Vose is confident joining Colchester United will help him get his promising career back on track.

The attacking midfielder was tipped for big things after signing a professional contract with West Ham United on his 17th birthday, in 2011.

But little more than a year later, Vose was released by the Hammers without playing a game and has since plied his trade for the likes of Barnet and Braintree Town.

However, former Fulham youth-team player Vose has now been given a monthly contract by the U’s, after impressing boss Joe Dunne while on trial.

And Vose, 19, says he is determined to take his new-found opportunity at the Weston Homes Community Stadium with both hands.

Vose said: “I had been working hard to get things to go my way and I’m grateful to get this chance.

“I’ve had my fingers burned during my career in the past and I’m hungry to do well.

“I want to get my career going and in Colchester, I feel like I’m at a club where I can do that.

“I feel like I’ve been around in football for a long time and not done as much as I’d have liked.

“West Ham are a massive club but I don’t think it was ever going to happen for me there.

“I know that I have to get my head down, train well and try to be involved.

“If I get the chance to make an impact, I’ll try and do so with both hands.”

Vose believes Colchester’s attractive style of football under Dunne will suit his game.

The London-born attacker, who can play anywhere across the midfield, says he immediately liked the atmosphere at the U’s.

“I was happy to sign for Colchester and from the first day, I liked it,” said Vose, who played in the same West Ham youth team as current Colchester loanee, Elliot Lee.

“They play good, attractive football and that’s perfect for me and my game.

“I’ve played for teams who have put it in the air but Colchester don’t do that.

“I like the way the youth team players still clean the senior players’ boots and there are no big-time Charlies there.

“The gaffer wants to see the same hunger from me as I showed when I was on trial.

“He’s very passionate about what he does and I really like him."
