Macauley Bonne scored twice as Colchester United’s under-21s played out a 3-3 draw with a Tottenham Hotspur development squad in a friendly at Spurs Lodge.

The U’s came from behind three times in the game to secure a share of the spoils, with Andy Bond also on target for Richard Hall’s side.

Souleymane Coulibaly scored twice for Spurs, with Cameron Lancaster also on target for the hosts.

Tom Eastman and Ryan Dickson both played 90 minutes for the U’s, as they continue their comebacks from injury and illness respectively.

And the likes of Sammie Szmodics, Tosin Olufemi and Dominic Vose also featured in the match.

Hall said: “It was a fantastic run out for our boys.

“They played against some top European talent but it shows how well our young lads are doing.

“It’s important that we’re playing against teams like this on a regular basis and it was a joy to go there, with the facilities they have.

“We didn’t have much of the ball and we had to chase it and try and get it back a lot of the time, which was good experience for us.

“Spurs played a different team in each half, so they were able to send out fresher legs at half-time.

“Some of our players needed to get 90 minutes under their belts and they got that, which is what the gaffer wanted and it was beneficial for everyone.”
