COLCHESTER’S Jamie Moul will continue his bid to reclaim his PGA European Tour spot this week.

The Stoke by Nayland member travelled to Spain yesterday, in readiness for the second instalment of his Tour School.

Moul competes at the Campo de Golf El Saler in Valencia, hoping to keep his hopes of qualifying for next year’s European Tour alive.

And he will go there in good heart, following an encouraging performance at his latest Challenge Tour event, in Oman.

Moul finished on one-over-par, at the inaugural National Bank of Oman Classic.

The 29-year-old shot opening rounds of 72 and 69 to find himself just three shots off the lead at the midway point of the event.

But rounds of 71 and 77 saw Moul drop off the pace and finished tied for 28th, in sultry conditions in the Arab state.

Moul said: “I was doing well but after the third round, I knew I was a bit too far back to win it.

“I played pretty well, but in the last round it didn’t really click.

“It was very hot and it was 36 degrees all the time, which made conditions difficult.

“It was roasting out there but the course was probably one of the best I’ve played on all year on the Challenge Tour.”

Moul has now refocused his attention on stage two of the Tour School, which begins on Saturday.

He will be hoping to follow up his runners-up finish achieved in the first stage of the qualifying competition in Kelsco, Scotland, last month.

Moul has been working on aspects of his game of late and admits the adjustments are taking time to bed in.

“It’s a slow work in progress at the moment,” added Moul, who won his first Challenge Tour event at the inaugural Acaya Open in Italy, in 2011.

“It’s something that I needed to change from last season and it takes a while to get the technical aspects done.”

The final stage of qualifying school takes place next month at the PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona, Spain.

The top 25 golfers will make it onto next year’s European Tour.
