The war in Ukraine has devastated all, and more than ever it has become vital that we come together and raise our support for those who need it most. This article examines ways in which you can help, and what is crucial to maintain this. Written by Thea Baloch, Colchester Sixth Form College.

As a result of the crisis in Ukraine, our college came together to form a ‘Ukraine Appeal Committee’ to discuss ideas for fundraising as well as ways to share our thoughts and knowledge. From this, we had arranged collections of monetary funds through Tutor group collection, sales of Ukrainian ribbons, a piano concert and a bake sale. We raised £2005.82 for humanitarian support to Ukraine through the disasters emergency committee which is government backed and therefore our proceeds will be doubled. As well as this, we arranged weekly collections of goods to support Ukraine.

These simple and compassionate donations certainly make a huge difference, and it is something which everybody can be a part of. To maintain this aid, it is crucial to stay well informed from reliable sources on the crisis in Ukraine and make either physical or monetary donations to express support.

Creating a platform to share concerns, knowledge and donations at our college has been enlightening and a powerful reminder that supporting others is crucial in battling international humanitarian crises.
