FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a blaze where two sheds were on fire.
Crews were called to Duncan Road, in Shrub End, Colchester, at around 5.41pm on Tuesday.
When they arrived, they discovered two sheds were burning due to the blaze.
One resident said: "The flames leapt up a tree which towered over the roof of the house - a terrifying sight.
"I did my bit by running down the road to alert adjoining properties.
"A neighbour of the affected property was particularly concerned as he had a large gas cylinder in his shed."
The fire service extinguished the fire by 6.24pm.
No one was harmed and the cause of the fire will be investigated.
