LIFT users will be unable to get on or off trains at a railway station at the start of April while improvement work takes place.

Greater Anglia says all lifts at Witham station will be out of action for three days starting on April 1 while “vital work” is carried out to improve reliability.

The planned work means customers unable to use stairs will be unable to travel to and from the station by train, and instead will need to make alterations to their journeys.

Passengers travelling to Witham are advised to get off at either Colchester or Chelmsford before completing their journey in a taxi. Those starting their journey at Witham will need to take a taxi to either Colchester or Chelmsford where they can then board their train.

Greater Anglia says it will both book and cover the cost of taxi journeys for customers affected by the lift improvements.

Simi Tinubu, Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said: “Witham is a busy station and we want it to be accessible for everyone.

“Unfortunately, there is no good time to carry out this work. However, all passengers will still be able to complete their journeys.

“We ask that passengers needing assistance give us as much notice and information as possible and we would like to thank them for their patience while this work is carried out.”
