Searching through family photos on my computer I came across the attached article about my father-in-law Ted Parsley and realised that the baby would now be 60 years old.
It would be interesting to know whether he is still local.
The story reads: "An 80mph mercy dash saved the life of a day-old baby at Colchester Maternity Hospital yesterday. Hero of the day was 39-year-old hospital driver Ted Parsley, of Maldon Road, Colchester.
"It was on Monday that 21-year-old Mrs Sheila Manning, of Florence Cottage, Stratford St Mary, gave birth to her third child - a boy.
"But there was a snag... the baby was a rhesus baby (a blue baby) and he needed an immediate blood transfusion.
"So Ted was called in. He set off to the Brentwood Blood Bank in the hospital car, with a blood sample and orders to get back as soon as possible.
"When Ted eventually reached the hospital, the 32-mile journey had taken him 38 minutes."
