A GANG of masked raiders armed with wooden batons robbed an elderly man in his home.

The three men got into a house in Chaplin Road, East Bergholt, where the man, aged in his seventies, was asleep in bed shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The group went into his bedroom and demanded to know where his money was.

One of the men searched the house, while the other two stayed in the bedroom and used a broom handle to push him back on the bed as he tried to get up.

When the third man returned to the room, he again shouted at the victim and asked to know where he kept his money.

The intruder then threw a laundry basket at the distraught victim.

He was left with a bloodied nose as a result of the attack.

All three robbers the fled after finding an unknown quantity of cash.

The incident lasted roughly 15 minutes.

Detectives believe the raiders gained entry to the property by forcing the back door.

After the group left, the victim then called the police and officers were at the scene shortly after.

Officers searched the area with a dog unit but the men could not be found.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said: “The victim was left very shaken by this incident and sustained a minor injury to his nose, but was otherwise unharmed.”

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area of the incident yesterday evening to make contact. In particular they would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Chaplin Road between 11.30pm and 12.15am.

Calls should be made to South Suffolk CID at on 101 quoting reference 23045/18, or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
