LAYER Road will remain open over this Bank Holiday weekend to avoid causing delays, Essex Highways bosses have confirmed.
The road has suffered a sunken section, which could be caused by collapsed sewer.
The problem came to light as workers were carrying out routine surfacing work.
But Anglian Water carried out CCTV searches on sewerage and storm water lines and reported no defects.
Roads bosses say the street is safe to use - though the sunken section is coned off - but exploration work will be put off until Tuesday.
An Essex Highways spokesman said: "We will leave further investigations until Tuesday, 30 August to avoid causing potential extensive delays over the Bank Holiday weekend.
"Our main priority is to ensure the safety of road users at this time while making sure that traffic can pass on both sides of the coned off area."
