HUNDREDS of people explored a variety of gardens at a fundraising event in Wivenhoe.
About 20 homeowners welcomed visitors as part of the Wivenhoe Open Gardens Weekend.
The annual event, which attracted more than 500 people, was held on Saturday and Sunday.
Pat Smith, who was part of the organising team, said: “It went very well. We sold lots of plants and raffle tickets. The weather was kind to us.” The money raised will be split between St Mary’s Church and the Wivenhoe Society.
The society will donate its share to Colne Radio and a fund to build a floating pontoon on the river. Ms Smith said: “I think it may be better than previous years.
“Last year we raised £4,000. If the plant stall was anything to go by, it went better than that.”
