CHELMSFORD’s secondary schools were among the high flyers in the latest league tables.

But stand-out results came from Great Baddow and Chelmer Valley High Schools.

Sixty-five per cent of pupils at the Duffield Road school, in Great Baddow, achieved five GCSEs or equivalents and 98 per cent passed three A-levels.

And at Chelmer Valley, in North Court Road, Chelmsford, 64 per cent of its students achieved five GCSEs or equivalents, and 99 per cent gained three A-levels.

Carrie Lynch, headteacher at Great Baddow, said: “I am now delighted to have confirmation, with the value-added measure, that pupils at Great Baddow High School make such good progress.

“In a town which has so many good comprehensive schools, it is a great achievement for our staff and students.

“There are 80 secondary schools in Essex so we are also very proud to be placed 20th in the county, including the grammar schools.”

David Franklin, Chelmer Valley’s headteacher, said another “challenging target” has been set for this year.

He added: “We never sit on our laurels.

“Some of our staff are moderators and examiners so that makes them realise what they have to do to get the best out of the pupils and have high expectations all round.”
