ARTISTS from all over Maldon will be showcasing their lockdown art at an exhibition starting this week.

The Maeldune Heritage Centre will open its doors to welcome visitors again on Tuesday and will launch a new exhibition called ‘Unlocked’, which will run from Wednesday to Saturday, May 1.

Several artists from the Maldon district will showcase the art they made during lockdown.

Artists include Jenny Newman, George Kowzan, Ian Birch, Doris Goddard, David Wiseman, Jill Hipsey, and Malcolm Brown.

Artist Jenny said: “I have been so lucky to have had a home studio to continue my work during the long months of lockdown.

“Turning more to abstract enabled me to draw on my emotions from joy to frustration to sorrow, playing for hours with colour, shape and texture.

“I love placing colours and textures onto the canvas in an instinctive way to create atmosphere and movement as the layers build so the painting goes off in unexpected ways until only the essence of the original idea is left, with all the energy yet none of the confines of its origin.”

The centre has also confirmed it is going to be home to the visitor information centre.

Centre manager Lynda O’Brien said: “A team of Maldon ambassadors will be joining our existing team of dedicated volunteers to assist visitors in finding out about events, other heritage venues, places of interest, travel information and tide times.

“The doors will be open with a warm welcome inside for all our visitors and regulars from far and wide.”
