POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision which has left a teen hospitalised with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash which has closed the B1418 at Bicknacre yesterday evening (April 7).

Main Road was closed in both directions between Priory Road and Lodge Road around 5pm.

Fire crews from Great Baddow and South Woodham Ferrers rescued a person who was trapped in their car.

A fire spokesman said: “Fire crews worked with paramedics to help release the casualty by 5:45pm.

“The casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service.”

Essex Highways' traffic control centre said the air ambulance landed at the scene and kept the road closed for some time before being cleared just before 8pm.

A police spokesman said: “Two cars were involved in a collision on Main Road, Bicknacre.

“A silver Fiesta was being driven from Bicknacre towards South Woodham Ferrers when it was in collision with an oncoming Corsa.

“The teenage driver of the silver Fiesta has been taken to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the Corsa – a man in his 80s – has been taken to hospital for assessment.

“Anyone who was in the vicinity and may have either witnessed the collision or captured dash cam footage of the incident or the vehicles just prior to the collision is asked to call us on 101 quoting incident 797 of April 7.”
