The Poppy Appeal will be taking place this year despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Organiser, Sholto Morton said at one point they were afraid it might not take place.

But despite restrictions, the appeal is still going ahead.

The appeal will be taking place at Morrisons, Tesco, Aldi and Asda across the district.

Some sites have had to be excluded as the number of volunteers is lower than previous years.

Traditionally residents gather across the district on Remembrance Sunday to pay their respects to the brave soldiers.

Unfortunately the annual parade at the Maldon War Memorial will not be taking place.

Last month, Maldon Town Council announced that the service at the War Memorial in Maldon town centre would be replaced by a Youtube broadcast.

The council, who organise the event had been considering possibilities to ensure everyone is safe.

But made the decision that it would not be responsible to hold the normal commemoration.

Instead, a pre-recorded broadcast on the Town Council's YouTube channel will take place at 11 o'clock on Remembrance Sunday.

The broadcast will also include snippets of history, photographs and the names of the fallen from World War II.

The council are encouraging residents to join in the minutes silence at 11am from the safety of your own homes.

Organisations wishing to contribute a video of themselves laying a wreath should send a video to the Town Clerk at townclerk@maldontowncouncil.gov.uk by October 22.
