A WOMAN who tragically died in a crash on a housing estate was allegedly thrown out of a car before being hit by another vehicle, a coroner’s court heard.

Linda Franklin, 39, was hit by a car in Avon Way, Colchester, on August 27.

Police, firefighters and paramedics all attended, but Ms Franklin sadly died at the scene.

Detectives confirmed at the time she had been involved in a crash which involved a silver Audi A3 and a Ford Escort near the road’s junction with Buffett Way on the Greenstead estate.

Her inquest was opened at Essex Coroner’s Court, where it was revealed Ms Franklin had allegedly been thrown out of a car.

Coroner’s assistant Marianne Robson explained how Ms Franklin had come to be fatally injured in the crash.

She said: “Ms Franklin was a passenger in a vehicle travelling along Avon Way when she was allegedly ejected from the vehicle.

“She was then struck by another vehicle.

“Police became involved and an investigation is ongoing.”

The crash happened at 6pm, and shortly before midnight police arrested David Jankovic in Sudbury.

He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

During his appearance at magistrates’ court it was explained that the matter was too serious to be dealt with at the lower court.

The 23-year-old, of no fixed address will next appear at Ipswich Crown Court on September 28 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Speaking at the inquest opening, area coroner Lincoln Brookes said proceedings would have to be put on hold until the end of the criminal investigation.

He said: “I read a suspect has been charged with death by dangerous driving.

“If there is to be an inquest, we will need a Post Mortem, histology, toxicology, information from the police investigation and perhaps some evidence from the family.”

Residents on the Greenstead estate were left shocked by the incident and reported seeing as many as eight emergency vehicles while the road was closed for several hours.

Floral tributes were left at the scene following the crash and have been maintained ever since.

Ward councillor for the area Julie Young paid tribute to Ms Franklin and said the community was saddened by her death.

MP Will Quince also paid respects and urged any witnesses to call 101.
