A FATHER who has been a community hero for decades has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.
Ray Kirkham, 66, of Burnham has been nominated for a Pride of Essex award for his contributions to the town.
His daughter Ali nominated him for the award which recognises people or groups who have gone the extra mile for their communities.
She said: “I nominated my dad as he does so much for so many people in the community of Burnham.
“He has been with the RNLI for nearly 20 years as a volunteer, he has been running a mother and toddler group at his church every Tuesday for approximately eight years.
“He has taught more than 70 people to drive just for the love of it, he has been Father Christmas at the schools and playgroups.
“He is known locally as ‘No Probs Ray’ as he never says no to anyone. He is a kind, good man and speaks to everyone.”
The ceremony takes place next Tuesday at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford.
