A DOZEN supportive friends “made mountains move”, by raising thousands of pounds for a child who suddenly fell ill.

The group of friends, who wish to remain anonymous, threw a fundraising disco for a child who is undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital, in London, following an infection and sepsis.

An incredible £4,500 was raised to help the child and her family adapt to the life changing experience they have been through.

The fundraising disco took place on earlier this month at the Kingsway Hall, in Dovercourt.

“You have helped raise this incredible amount and given us a night to remember and be proud of,” she said.

A woman of the fundraising team, who said she doesn’t want to “take all the glory” for the group’s efforts and prefers to remain anonymous, said the child suddenly fell ill on New Year’s Eve and was given a five per cent chance of survival.

She said: “Everyone who attended had an enjoyable evening, dancing to old school disco tunes and the musical talents of The Deserters and Chris and Paddy Bartholomew.

“The fundraising team would like to offer their thanks to the staff of the Kingsway Hall for their support, kindness, generosity and adaptability.

“We would also like to thank DJ Kyle, The Deserters and Chris and Paddy for providing the musical atmosphere for the evening.

“The fundraising team are very appreciative of all the local businesses and individuals who supported the event, either with the supply of raffle prizes or by promoting the event for us.”

She added is also thankful to residents who attended the disco and made it such a success.

“You have helped raise this incredible amount and given us a night to remember and be proud of,” she said.

“On behalf of the fundraising team, thank you very much.”

She did not want to name the family of the poorly child as they are going through a difficult time and they are very private.
