HARD-WORKING Harwich Society volunteers were thanked at a reception.

Harwich Society chairman Colin Farnell organised the reception at the Navigator, in Barrack Lane on Friday.

Mr Farnell said volunteers were the life blood of the society. He is “particularly proud” of the fact that those present spanned nine decades in age.

He said: “It is a major task to staff and maintain our seven visitor attractions, which is only the tip of the iceberg.

“From publishing and delivering the society’s quarterly magazine through to maintaining our extensive archives there are volunteers of all ages working very hard on so many aspects of Harwich Society life. They are a brilliant team. It is sometimes a good idea to take a step back and look at just how well the Harwich Society is doing. I believe we make a very positive contribution to our wonderful town and this is entirely down to our fantastic team.”
