KIND-HEARTED youngsters have organised an event to raise money for a lifesaving organisation.

The First Great Oakley Brownies and Guides decided to give something back to hardworking lifeboat volunteers after visiting Harwich RNLI station and learning about their lifesaving work.

Marie Copper, leader of 1st Great Oakley Guides, said: “We, the leaders are so very proud of the girls and how much they raised.

“We had a fantastic talk at the RNLI and the girls learnt about what to do if they fall in the water and about all the amazing things the RNLI does.

“They talked to the girls about the Respect the Waters campaign and about how much it costs to run a lifeboat.

“We also got to look around at the outfits they have to put on, and got to look outside at one of the lifeboats. “

They organised a sponsored water obstacle course, which involved running around and getting wet.

The Brownies raised £77.50 and the Guides £63.25.

John Huggett, from Harwich RNLI attended their meeting on Tuesday night and was presented with the cheques.

Alice Cutter and Emma Stein from the Guides and Alice Messenger with Ivy Harrison-Jones from the Brownies, pictured right, presented theirs cheques.
