A pier’s mooring pontoon has been removed at the pier to undergo a five-month repair.

Harwich Haven Authority has removed the Ha’penny Pier’s innermost pontoon, positioned under the gangway, as part of investment into the Haven on Monday.

This is the last of three sections to be refurbished at the pier, as the other two pontoons have been revamped in the past few years.

The pontoon will undergo a full renovation, which includes a thorough clean, a fresh coat of paint, steel replacement and the installation of non-slip decking.

Hannah Theobald, for Harwich Haven Authority, said: “This year Ha’penny Pier pontoons saw more than 800 visiting vessels during the sailing season, a continuing increase compared to past years.

“A replacement pontoon will be installed during the refurbishment and the pontoons will remain open to the public, therefore we expect very little disruption.”

Amicus Civil Engineering will carry out the work and the repaired pontoon is expected to be back in place by mid-March.
