A THEATRE group is preparing to celebrate its centenary with a look back at its history.

Sudbury Dramatic Society started in 1921 and is hoping to get back on stage next year following a Covid-hit 2020.

Next year, the society celebrates its centenary and is looking at ways to mark the anniversary.

The group held a competition to design a special logo. The winner, which was designed by Tim Foster, is already on the group’s website and Facebook page.

Now the group is set to launch a 2021 calendar which takes a look back at performances throughout its history.

A spokesman said: “We are extremely excited to announce the release of our very own 2021 SDS calendar created by committee members Gemma Cooper and Natalie Pimm, who did all the work of sorting through lots of pictures from our comprehensive archive to produce a page for each decade, plus two whole pages devoted to pantomime pictures, as well featuring our new logo.

“Why not order a copy and see how many stalwarts of the town, plus the plays they appeared in, you can recognise and remember?”

The calendars cost £10 and can be ordered at sudburydramatic.com, via their Facebook page or by contacting chair@sudburydramatic.com.

Society chairman Sara Knight has also been working on a book about the history of SDS, which should be out this year.
